About Sabarimala

Lord Ayyappa is the main deity of Sabarimala and the most coveted Lord for millions of devotees worldwide. The shrine of Sabarimala, is located in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala and is about 3000 feet above sea level. The place actually gets a divine look and feel in the land of Bhargava Rama and otherwise called the 'God's own Country', during the period when North East monsoon recedes and particularly with the start of the Malayalam month of Vrishcikam, which approximately falls during November-December period.
The entire atmosphere gets rented with the chanting of Swamiye Sharanam Ayyappa and one can see millions of devotees heading towards The Holy Hills of Sabarimala, clad in black garments, with beaded garlands and forehear smeared with sandalwood paste and saffron.

Significance

The Sabarimala Yatra claims unique significance across the mundane differences of caste, creed, community, rank superiority etc. Anyone on the earth can take up the pilgrimage, provided he has observed the 48-day spiritual observation and austerities. The moment, a devotee starts his austerities, he is being suffixed in his name with 'Swami' or 'Ayyappa' and he is expected, in return, to see the world in the same perspective. The bottomline is that anything and everything in the world has to be seen as the Lord. This upholds the vedic dictums of Aham Bramasmi and Tattwamasi.
